SUNY Brockport is renovating and revitalizing portions of both the North and South buildings of the existing Tuttle Athletic Complex; 89,940GSF in the South building and 44,000GSF in the North building. These spaces will be transformed to accommodate programs in Kinesiology, Sports Studies, Physical Education (KSSPE), student recreation, and facilities for athletic training. Additionally, space will be provided for administrative staff and program faculty.
To aid and enhance the KSSPE programs, several specialized laboratory spaces are being designed for research and student learning. An Exercise Science Research Laboratory, Biomechanics Laboratory, and Motor Behavior Laboratory will be located in the facility to allow students to carry out research and necessary experiments. Additionally, the Exercise Science program will now have access to an Environmental Chamber to accurately study the human condition in a variation of weather patterns.
A dedicated KSSPE Weight Room is being designed for further research processes and will serve as an Athletic Training Laboratory. A Kinesiology Consultation Room will provide students with hands-on experience, and the Physical Education Teacher Education classroom & Pedagogy Lab will provide those pursuing PETE certification with ongoing classroom experience.
The existing Racquetball courts in Tuttle North are being re-purposed into two Batting Cages for the University’s baseball & softball teams. Additionally, a large athlete weight training room is located adjacent to all team locker rooms for ease of access. An athlete training clinic and a film room are also located in the locker area for continued training and care. Two back-court gyms and one full-sized gymnasium are being designed for the building to accommodate student recreation and the ongoing athletic season.
