Located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the new Joint Laboratory Facility will provide extensive laboratory space for five government agencies: Department of Agriculture, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Health, Pennsylvania State Police, and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The new laboratory, facilitated by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, is set to foster collaboration between the five agencies.

Spanning 375,862GSF and 4 buildings, the Facility includes 100+ specialized laboratory spaces including, an Advanced Molecular Detection Lab, Entomology + Zoology Lab, and an area for Nematology Extraction. In addition to on-site laboratory space, the facility also features a large vehicle bay for mobile laboratories. 

The Pennsylvania State Police’s facilities will be housed in a separate building to allow for noise control. The State Police will have a dedicated space for ballistics investigation and a firing range. Additionally, ample office space will be available for the team and any visiting officers.

The unique pinwheel design of the building allows for each agency to have dedicated laboratory space, while still sharing common spaces with those in other agencies. A large common area with pantry space lives in the center of each floor, allowing workers space to eat and connect outside of the lab space. Several conference rooms and focus rooms are also located throughout the building for more private collaboration. 

The campus also features a historic Chapel with a 250-seat auditorium and ample storage space. The preservation of the surrounding historic buildings was of the utmost importance to the project and will be carefully renovated and modernized to use as public facing spaces. The two new facilities are being designed to complement the historic nature of the existing campus and Harrisburg overall.
