In an effort to create a physical location to unify online education efforts, Ferris State University launched the brand new Center for Virtual Learning & eSports Arena. The new cutting-edge facility provides program development support and preparation for faculty engaged in virtual education and the first-of-its-kind eSports program. At 64,000GSF, the Center is home to several academic programs including Data Science & Analytics, Information Security & Intelligence, Professional eSports Production, and TV & Digital Media Production.

To supplement learning, several computer labs are placed throughout the facility, with labs designated for video editing, animation, digital media, and programming. Students also have access to a VR/AR Laboratory to enhance motion capture and virtual reality production learning. Several Sound Booths are available throughout the building, as well as a Podcast & Live Broadcasting studio. Equipped with audio monitors and displays, these spaces give students the hands-on experience they need to thrive post-graduation. 

The Cyber Challenge Room is designed to challenge skills and is used to facilitate Cyber Competitions and hackathons. The CCR can be opened from a singular classroom into the eSports Arena with room for spectators and other challengers. The eSports Arena is the first of its kind in the state of Michigan, serving as a space for the University’s eSports Club as well as the hub for its eSports Production major. The brand-new major offers a variety of concentrations and works in tandem with the Club to provide students with hands-on active learning opportunities.

Students within the Information Security & Intelligence program have access to a dedicated Faraday Lab which exists on its own private server on campus. The room is used to enhance learning and provide real-world experience for those studying cybersecurity. The lab is accompanied by two evidence examination rooms, allowing for preparation before entering the Faraday Room.
