In an effort to modernize its nursing program, Carlow University has introduced the Celtic Simulation Center for Innovative Learning to Curran Hall. The new 6,000GSF simulation space provides students with an advanced opportunity to work on skills and prepare for their future careers.
An advanced Learning Management System provides students with robust feedback, allowing for active improvement and accurate tracking of student work. Each simulation station is equipped with a smart Mannikin to mimic patient actions and reactions, simulating a realistic healthcare environment for hands-on learning.
To align with the Center’s mission to provide culturally competent, evidence-based experiential learning, nursing students have the opportunithy to develop a wide range of skills including checking vital signs, conducting patient intake, and perfecting their bedside manners. In addition to the simulation stations, the lab features, interactive touch screen monitors, telehealth nursing, realistic medication delivery systems and digital patient records.
The simulation space is accompanied by debriefing and control rooms, each featuring a control station equipped with an audio system, allowing instructors to provide directions or communicate as the Mannikin itself.
The skills refinement teaching lab contains nine fully equipped nursing stations with a Mannikin at each bed. At the front of the room, instructors can demonstrate various procedures by projecting live videos of their work onto displays positioned above each student bed.
