Media Innovation Center

Recognizing the growing use of technology and its increasing influence on media—how it is created, shared and distributed—the WVU Reed College of Journalism retained BrightTree Studios to design a bleeding-edge AV technologies platform for the Media Innovation Center where students have access to the tools currently shaping the way in which media is developed and experienced.

Our design is both highly flexible and adaptive. It incorporates the integration of professional audiovisual hardware with user based technology solutions such as Skype, Google Hangouts, and Google Docs in spaces such as:

“Maker” & “Hacker” Co-Labs: These highly collaborative, “analog-meets-digital” spaces foster experiments at the emerging intersection between the digital and the physical world and encourage students from the arts, engineering and other disciplines to collaborate.

Incubator / Forum: A public, low-fi lounge space. The technology focuses on student breakout
meetings, hackathons, and collaboration sessions. Three LED displays encourage student
impromptu meetings by wirelessly connecting to any display in the forum using their BYOD.

Strategic Communications Hub: This hub represents a cutting-edge, IMC digital agency and
teaching space. A video wall allows the instructor to display one large image, or multiple images, at the front of the classroom simultaneously. A social media bridge of six displays allow the College to continuously display six different sources of information (Twitter, CNN, Snapchat, etc)

BrightTree Studios created an environment that allows students to use ubiquitous cloud-based technologies in a professional eco system, and encourage the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) movement by developing systems that allow anyone to easily connect and share their device on a single display or throughout the entire building.
