Watt Family Innovation Center

The Watt Family Innovation Center is a unique learning environment where 21st century technology and audiovisual systems are designed to support and adapt to the way in which millennials learn, collaborate and share information across the diverse spectrum of academia.

BrightTree Studios developed a hybrid system for the new three-story, 60,000 SF facility which leverages modern HDBase-T, point-to-point wired infrastructure to provide basic functionality for all users while siloing specific hardware to a centralized core where it is available to all but accessed only when needed.

The use of technology and the building itself are constantly monitored by a Command and Control Center informing utilization rates, user need and operational efficiency. Collected as a means to future-proof the facility, this data will be analyzed and used to adjust the building systems to better support students and the ways in which they engage with the facility. The building also contains online learning laboratories, distance learning studios, an academic research center for testing new and emerging technologies, a Bleeding Edge Boardroom, cyber fusion laboratories, a GIS room featuring immersive technology, and active learning classrooms where integrated technology facilitates collaboration.

Audiovisual systems support an array of learning environments with touchscreen technology; two 4K, 3D Stereoscopic projectors with 11.1 surround sound; and a full communications studio where students can rehearse presentations in front of a virtual audience—complete with sneezing, coughing, ringing cell phones—in a virtual setting (the floor of the United Nations, or Carnegie Hall, for example).
