Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health established a new building that serves as a connected and collaborative space, encouraging student community building. This innovative development is connected to the existing Wolfe building via The Walk, a multi-level walkway stretching between East Monument St. and Jefferson St., ensuring convenient access to both structures. The Walk features ample space for poster sessions, offering glimpses into the scientific endeavors at JHU.
Designed as a vibrant neighborhood, the new building incorporates several flexible spaces that encourage gathering and collaboration. Each floor includes kitchenettes and living rooms to give students an area to gather, unwind, and collaborate. In addition, many social hubs are strategically scattered throughout the building, fostering a powerful sense of community among its occupants.
The entrance plaza features a convertible space capable of hosting various events, including farmers’ markets, graduation ceremonies, and other regular gatherings. Spanning 226,300 gross square feet and serving as the home to the School of Nursing, the new building offers students access to a behavioral research laboratory, a broadcast studio, private conference rooms, and state-of-the-art active learning classrooms. Huddle spaces and group study areas are available throughout the facility, easing collaborative work and knowledge sharing.
The Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University created a dynamic and interconnected environment that nurtures a sense of belonging and collaboration among students through this project.
