Carnegie Mellon University’s Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) building marked the first phase of the 385,000GSF development project on the University’s campus. The building itself occupies 90,000GSF and accommodates the School of Computer Science’s Institute for Software Research, the Master of Science in Computational Finance Program, and the Center for Business Engagement. The TCS & Mechanical Engineering building establishes a welcoming entry point for visitors and students at the campus’s western boundary.

As a standalone structure, the facility is a hub for innovative education and research conducted by faculty and students. It is designed to facilitate engagement between TCS employees and CMU staff, faculty, and students. Indoor and outdoor areas have been incorporated into the facility to enhance interactions among occupants. The building is LEED Gold Certified and embodies the environmental values and goals of both Tata Consultancy Services and the University. It features a spacious public lobby, ground-floor retail spaces, and versatile technology areas that push the boundaries of design practice.

The shared space brings together TCS and CMU, fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange between academia and industry. It serves as a physical embodiment of Carnegie Mellon’s commitment to cutting-edge research, technological advancement, and sustainable practices.
