ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS MODERNIZATION (EHRM) AND DATA CENTER INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES

The Veterans Affairs Medical Center of Iowa City underwent infrastructure rehabilitation to align with their mission of upgrading the electric distribution system and IT infrastructure to accommodate the implementation of the new Electronic Health Record Management (EHRM) system. The Center spans 500,000GSF across 10 buildings and serves as a haven for local veterans.

Telecommunications and security designs included establishing a fiber optic backbone throughout the facility, implementing redundant fiber pathways, adding entrance rooms, and establishing dual pathways of multimode fiber to each telecom room. Extensive cable pathways and various telecom rooms were established. All existing Cat cabling was upgraded to Cat6A.

Improvements were also made to the existing electrical systems, incorporating building management system interfaces, enhancing access control points, and modernizing the main server room systems. To support the expanded technological requirements, a brand-new data center was designed to cater to the needs of the VAMC Iowa City campus.

Through these extensive efforts, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center of Iowa City has successfully undergone the necessary upgrades to meet the evolving demands of healthcare technology and enhance the care provided to our valued veterans.
